Sporta's first SportaCulture event will take place at the Library of Birmingham on 20th January 2015, 10:30 - 15:00pm. There will be presentations from members of the Cultural Development Group with discussions on the role of leisure and cultural trusts in managing and developing cultural facilities.
Congratulations to Dr Bridget McConnell, Chief Executive of Glasgow Life and Glasgow 2014 board member, who has received a CBE for services to culture in this year's honours list.
Our October GM featured Hannah White on adventuring, Livewire on Warrington's Rugby League World Cup, Tara Dillon on the new CIMSPA and Members discussing the current campaigns and challenges.
At our GM on 1 October Hannah White talked about her life as an adventurer and her mission to inspire people to enjoy sport and physical activity. Keith Maddock from Warrington Livewire told the story and showed a video about how Warrington hosted the Rugby League World Cup 2013, and Tara Dillon spoke emphatically and passionately about how CIMSPA could at last be the Chartered Institute we can all be proud of, if members can join up. After lunch Members had reports from David Ferguson and Sir John Elvidge on the current Scottish campaign and how post-referendum Scotland is going to affect the rest of the UK; we finished with discussions on the next phases of Sporta's programmes for procurement and development (including asset transfer, charitable funding) and public health.
Sporta are delighted to welcome four new members; Everybody Sport & Recreation, Sandford Parks Lido, Stantonbury Arts & Leisure and Vivacity Culture & Leisure.
