As part of LiveWire Warrington's, 'Inclusive Fitness' project delivered with Make Your Move funding and the English Federation of Disability Sport, they have organised a very sought after course and the offer is out to member trusts to join them. These courses do not run that frequently (particularly outside London) and are essential for any sites looking to undertaken IFI accreditation.

Level 2 Award in Programming and Supervising Exercise with Disabled clients
The CYQ Exercise and Disability qualification was developed as part of the EFDS Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) and provides instructors with the confidence and expertise to address these barriers and deliver safe, effective and fun exercise programmes for a range of people with disabilities, including Down's syndrome, Asperger's syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, limbless/amputation-related disability and visual and hearing impairments.

The programme is open to qualified level 2 instructors and consists of 2 days intensive training followed by assessment approximately 4 weeks later. There is a mandatory requirement that the candidate prepares for the assessment by developing a programme with a disabled client and brings that disabled person along with them on the day of the assessment. The assessment consists of a viva based on the written, planned programme with the instructor, the assessor and the disabled client and the completion of three detailed worksheets.

Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th February 2016, 9-5pm. With the assessment being on Tuesday 22nd March. The cost per place is £325.

Venue Address – Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub, Jubilee Way, Orford, Warrington, WA2 8HE.

Sporta held the first meeting of the recently established working group of single site operators in Leeds last Wednesday 11th November. Well attended by members of the group from across the country, the event provoked healthy discussion on the topics of staff management, funding, trust development and energy, and was followed by the kind offer of a tour of Bramley Baths by Tracy Basu.
Slides from the day can be seen here (login required), with the next meeting scheduled for early 2016. For more information, or any questions about the group please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

As part of measures to mark the tenth year as the national association of sport, leisure and cultural trusts, Sporta will be holding its first awards ceremony on 11th May 2016. The awards are designed to commemorate and champion the distinctive elements of what trusts do, and shine a light on the outstanding achievements throughout the year 2015. Covering three broad areas, the ten award categories include: successfully engaging inactive people; working with public health; benefitting local communities; and highlighting fantastic individual contributions within each organisation.

Full information about the awards can be found here. It is hoped all members will have the opportunity to showcase areas of their ongoing work, and Sporta will ensure to promote such achievements as part of the wider publicity campaign for the trust model. Please submit all applications, as well as any relevant questions, to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 29th February 2016.

£2million funding boost for local communities to help get women, older people and inactive groups into sport. Areas benefitting from the scheme include: Tadcaster, Newcastle, south Dorset, Exeter, Northampton, County Durham, Lincolnshire, Stockton on Tees, Test Valley, Sheffield, Tandridge, Ashford, Newham, South Downs, Dover and Northumberland.

Older people, women, and inactive groups in England are set to benefit from thousands of pounds in funding to help them become more involved in sport.  Sport England has teamed up with sporta, whose members manage 40 per cent of community sports, leisure and culture facilities in the UK, to allocate £430,889 of National Lottery money to 17 local projects.  This means the cash will reach grassroots leisure trusts operating at the heart of communities, to help them deliver creative projects to engage inactive people in sport.
