Sporta's next General Meeting will take place in London on Wednesday 8th February 2017. The venue for the meeting is confirmed as the Royal Over-Seas League.

Topics will include a focus on current policy development including a discussion with Andy Burnham MP and with Sport England as well as discussion of Sporta's plans for 2017/18.

Sporta members, partners and friends came together on 6th December for the final conference of the Make Your Move programme. The event was held at Sheffield City Hall, one of a number of venues managed by Sporta member Sheffield City Trust. Over three years, the Sport England lottery funded programme has supported 46 projects across England, helping to engage inactive communities in physical activity. The programme has attracted over 24,000 participants, with over 90% of respondents maintaining activity levels six months after intervention.
The day focussed on three main themes - understanding participants, effective partnerships, and the trust model – which compliment some of the overall themes to emerge from the programme. Discussion groups and workshops were held, giving attendees the chance to interact and share experiences.

Members, guests and friends of Sporta gathered this week in Birmingham for the Sporta Health Conference.
Held at Leisure Industry Week, the educational event featured presentations from Public Health
England into the challenges being faced in terms of obesity and inactivity, insight from The
Richmond Group and Britain Thinks about engaging older adults with long term conditions, and the
ASA about their successful dementia friendly swimming programme. There were also a number of
examples from Sporta trusts who shared learning on a wide range of innovative programmes and
initiatives delivering health services.

Please take note of the date and venue for Sporta's next General Meeting which will take place on Wednesday 8th February at the Royal Overseas League in London.

As requested at the GM in Birmingham, Sporta will be seeking a headline speaker for the meeting. We will also be organising a meeting of one of the Business Development Groups - details tbc. Further details and an agenda will follow.
