Bolton Middlebrook Leisure Trust - Inspire 2 Action

Inspire2Action is a programme funded by Sport England, ‘Get Active’ and the USN Bolton Arena to engage adults who are currently inactive into sporting activity. Prior to this year the Trust has been involved in projects whose remits have been to attract sedentary adults into sport and physical activity. The ‘More Active Health Scheme’ directed by Mend and the FIA was specifically designed to address lifestyle issues alongside diet and exercise. 'Inspire 2 Action' consists of one-to-one mentoring in the gym as well as bespoke classes in badminton, table tennis, touch tennis, spinning and running. The programme runs over a nine week period and is designed to increase confidence, skills and fitness; gradually introducing more activities and options. Participants are helped to set their own goals and reflect on their progress, as well as to be guided towards community settings in an activity that suits them once they leave the programme. As a result, the Inspire 2 Action programme has received the support and praise of local MP, Julie Hilling. www.inspire2action.co.uk

Kirklees Active Leisure PALS Programme

The Practice Activity and Leisure Scheme (PALS) is a GP referral programme provided through Kirklees Council in partnership with Kirklees Active Leisure. The programme has helped thousands of people in the local area recover from health problems, become more active, and improve their health. Read more here

Kirklees Active Leisure - Ready Steady Go!

Ready Steady Go! is a FREE service which helps inactive people get fit by introducing them to a range of enjoyable fitness activities whilst also giving advice about healthy eating and general well-being. Ready Steady Go! includes a FREE welcome session, FREE action plan, FREE activity voucher and up to 4 FREE specialised classes.

No Smoking Day

No Smoking Day is an annual campaign which is run by the British Heart Foundation (BHF). Last year they encouraged one million smokers to make an attempt to quit. Dr. Mike Knapton, Associate Medical Director at the BHF, said " Quitting smoking is the single best thing people can do for their health and we want to arm smokers with information and support that will send them on the road to recovery." Below are a number of case studies which show how Sporta members are helping motivate and support smokers give up cigarettes for good.  Live well with LiveWire Warrington - Inspiring people to quit smoking and succeed in  the battle against cigarettes for good. 

Jubilee Hall Trust - MEND programmes

Jubilee Hall Trust, in partnership with Southwark Public Health, has successfully completed five MEND programmes in 2013 for age groups 5-7 and 7-13.  They are continuing this positive trend in 2014, with two new programmes starting end of January at different locations in Southwark. WLCT - Lose Weight Feel Great

The Community Weight Management programme - Lose Weight Feel Great, delivered by Wigan Leisure and Cultural Trust (WLCT) in partnership with Slimming World has helped nearly 16,000 local people lose weight since the programme launched in January 2009. The most recent participant to have their life changed by the 'Lose Weight Feel Great' programme is, Catherine Hankin a true story.   WLCT pioneer new approaches to tackling obesity, organise thousands of exercise classes and opportunities for people to access museums, parks and play areas. 

Tees Valley Leisure - The Golden Mile

  The Golden Mile is a programme wholly funded by Tees Valley Leisure, which sees young participants from Middlesbrough encouraged to walk, jog, run or cycle a mile a week, covering 50 miles by the end of 2014. To learn more about the programme please click here.   

Vision - Redbridge Culture and Leisure Public Health Programmes

  The MEND programme is a multi-component healthy lifestyle programme targeted at children that are above a healthy weight. The programme aims to reduce participants’ Body Mass Index (BMI) classification through healthy behaviour changes that lead to weight maintenance whilst the children are still growing. Tone Leisure - Spring Sisters Running Project

  The Spring Sisters Running project was conceived by a young person, volunteering at Tone Leisure as part of her college course.  Her brief was to create  a safe and social activity for female runners aged 16 -25 years, to learn new skills,  improve their running ability,  and feel confident about running either outdoors  in their local community or using gym based equipment in the future.  The project was led throughout by this volunteer. The project was launched at Wellsprings Leisure Centre, Taunton, on the edge of an area of high deprivation.  The aim was to break down barriers and encourage community participation, the runners had two meeting points, one at Wellsprings Leisure Centre, and the other at a key community meeting point, the local shopping centre. The project had no cost to participants. Case study to follow soon. 

Impulse Leisure - Wellbeing & Short Break Case Studies

The Thurrock Council Employee Wellbeing Programme was designed to help individual's with their weight as measured by their BMI. Click here to read about how the positive impact the programme has had on the 100+ individuals with their wellbeing and general health.    Short breaks for disabled children and young people is a great programme which transforms services both the user and their families. It has enabled Impulse Leisure to increase participation levels by offering low-cost sessions and activities. To learn about what the programme has done for two children click here.

GLL - Healthwise Referral Scheme

The GLL Healthwise scheme which is based on regular activity is designed to help: Keep your heart strong and healthy  Reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and strokes Reduce stress and anxiety Assist with weight loss and weight management  Strengthen your muscles Improve your mobility and improve posture Improve your quality of life and overall health  Click here to read about a patient who was referred by a GP and how the scheme changed her life.

Tempus Leisure

Here are some evaluations and studies where Tempus Leisure were key partners or lead partners in providing public health programmes:  Tempus ran a lifestyle health assessment for the NHS in GP surgeries in south-east Cornwall for 3 years under a practice based commissioning format, geared towards addressing poor activity levels, low mood and basic dietary advice. Click here to read more. Tempus were commissioned by the NHS for 2 years to support obesity intervention. Commissioned by the NHS to develop a, for child health ranger programme for work in schools. Tempus leisure currently support and co-train with the NHS on a national health check programme The work place health cohort is part of an annual programme of work that covers 1000 health assessments for public sector staff, with a specific link to leisure centre and physical activity provision. Click here to read more. Tempus have an exercise referral programme which has been re-developed and continues to be refined to suit the needs of the general public. They deliver some rehab and support programmes in partnership with NHS providers such as cardiac nurse teams, physiotherapy units and Macmillan. Tempus are partnering in the development of a health assessment module for, the foundation degree of the Sport and Health Science faculty in Cornwall.
