Tone Leisure - Spring Sisters Running Project
The Spring Sisters Running project was conceived by a young person, volunteering at Tone Leisure as part of her college course. Her brief was to create a safe and social activity for female runners aged 16 -25 years, to learn new skills, improve their running ability, and feel confident about running either outdoors in their local community or using gym based equipment in the future. The project was led throughout by this volunteer. The project was launched at Wellsprings Leisure Centre, Taunton, on the edge of an area of high deprivation. The aim was to break down barriers and encourage community participation, the runners had two meeting points, one at Wellsprings Leisure Centre, and the other at a key community meeting point, the local shopping centre. The project had no cost to participants. Case study to follow soon.
